What are the benefits of an insulated garage door?
A garage door opening represents a large opening in your home’s thermal barrier. Insulated doors help reduce the impact of outside air temperatures, thus reducing the amount of energy required to cool or heat your home. Insulated doors also reduce noise from the exterior of your home.

What maintenance is suggested for my garage or overhead door?
While we suggest a certified professional undertake any major repairs, there are some steps you can take to maintain your door. They are:
- Periodically lubricate your garage or overhead door track, hinges and springs. Call us to determine the best methods for lubricating your specific door.
- Clean the frame’s weather stripping with vinyl cleaner and lubricate it from time to time with an appropriate product to keep the stripping pliable.
- Inspect the springs, cables and rollers every six months and call us to replace any that are worn or broken, or call us and have us replace them.
- If you have a painted door, periodically paint the exterior to help protect it from the elements.
Is Overhead Door Co. a Better Business Bureau accredited business?
Overhead Door Co. has a BBB rating of A+ and has been a BBB Accredited Business since 1973. We are also members of the Canadian Door Institute (CDI), International Door Association (IDA), and our local construction and home builder associations in Edmonton and Vancouver.
What are the standard sizes available for your residential garage doors?
In general, standard sizes for door widths are 8’, 9’ 10’, 12’, 15’, 16’, 18’ and 20’. Some door series may have exceptions to this rule. Check with Overhead Door Co. about the availability of specific sizes or custom width doors which we can order for you.
Can I paint my garage door?
All Overhead Door steel garage doors can be painted with the color of your choice by using latex paint.
Can I install my own garage door?
A “do-it-yourselfer” can install a garage door, if he has skills and tools to do so -- and, most important, if he has carefully and thoroughly read the installation instructions before beginning the job. However, many do-it-yourselfers attempt the job without fully understanding the complexities and safety issues involved. Given the high tension that door springs operate under, this can generate significant risk. We recommend that you save considerable time and prevent injury risk by letting one of our qualified installers do the job for you – safely, quickly and affordably.
Can I replace a section of my door or do I need to replace the whole door?
Depending upon the damage involved to the garage door system, it is possible in many cases to replace a section of your garage door. Overhead Door Co. can evaluate your situation and give you a recommendation on the best course of action.
Do you have any GREEN or environmentally friendly products?
Overhead Doors are made out of a combination of recycled and new steel. On average, our steel products have the following makeup:
- 40.8% post consumer recycled material
- 19.95% post industrial recycled material
- 60.75% total recycled material
The glass used in our doors is produced from approximately 20 – 25% recycled materials. Though the rigid polyurethane foam insulation in our door contains no recycled materials, it does NOT contain any CFC’s or HCFC’s- ozone depleting agents or any VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds).
Which of your products are the most energy efficient?
Our Thermacore doors are available in various levels of R-Value, as they are insulated and manufactured to prevent heat loss by filling the doors with environmentally safe polyurethane which save energy and heat loss.
EcoBuilt® garage doors look, feel and even sound like wood, because they are made of wood: 81% Douglas-fir, to be precise. Overhead Door recycles unused Douglas-fir from mills and fuses it with exterior grade resins and wax to form a hard-working homogenous door panel. Specially formulated to resist moisture, these door panels actually outperform wood in tests of weather and time.
Little did we know 40 years ago when this technology was being developed that EcoBuilt® would be the future of garage doors. Because of their unique composition, all EcoBuilt® garage door panels use 100% recycled wood fiber and are SCS Certified: Minimum 88% Recycled Content.
EcoBuilt® garage doors resist splitting, warping and cracking, unlike conventional wood doors, and they won’t dent or bend like steel doors. They’re easy to install and they come prepped for painting, eliminating the need for exterior priming.
What is R-value and how does it benefit me?
R-value is a standardized measurement of thermal efficiency. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating properties. Overhead Door manufactures insulated doors with a broad range of R-values designed to meet your needs. Our Thermacore® doors offer our highest R-values - up to 17.5, the highest in the industry.
How much does a garage door system cost?
The price of your new garage door is influenced by a wide range of factors. Overhead Door Co. should be contacted for an accurate price for the specific product you are considering. You may be surprised at how affordable they can be.
What maintenance does my garage door require?
